Protecting people is what we do. Keeping drivers, passengers and roads safe is part of Allstate's history and still a priority.
Crash detection, now available to all Allstate mobile app users, is one way we focus on safety while using innovative technology to help customers — whenever, wherever and however they need it.
What is crash detection?
Crash detection is a free and optional safety feature in the Allstate mobile app.
After a user has chosen to set up crash detection, if the app detects a possible car crash on the driver or passenger side, it sends a notification offering options for help. Users can call 911 in just two clicks or get roadside assistance with fast, trackable service. Auto customers can also seamlessly start a claim.
Crash detection launched in 2020 and was previously only available to those who signed up for Drivewise. Now any Allstate mobile app user can take advantage of it.
We'll continue to keep an eye on usage and customer feedback to understand how crash detection is working and make improvements.
How does crash detection work?
Crash detection is activated when a user has chosen to turn it on, and the vehicle is moving at least 25 mph. At that speed, the need for immediate help after a crash is more likely. The feature won't detect low-impact accidents.
If a user wasn't actually in an accident, they can report that, which will help refine the algorithm and make the feature even more accurate.
Crash detection relies on technology from Arity, which uses smartphone sensors to detect collisions when users opt in. Arity is a mobility data and analytics company that was founded by Allstate in 2016. Arity develops solutions to help make transportation smarter, simpler and safer overall.
How do you set up crash detection?
In the Allstate mobile app, available for iOS and Android devices, you can set up crash detection through Drivewise or as a standalone feature in the settings page. It's easy and takes seconds.
