Keeping drivers, passengers and roads safe is part of our company's history and a top priority at Allstate today. Crash Detection Services is one way we continue to focus on safety while using innovative technology to help customers in need.

What is Crash Detection Services?

Crash Detection Services is a free safety feature available to Drivewise users in the Allstate Mobile app.

When the app detects that a customer may have been in a serious car crash — either as a passenger or as a driver — an app notification offers help. Users are asked whether they need to call 911, start a claim or access Roadside Assistance.

How does it work?

Crash detection is activated when the vehicle is moving at least 25 mph. At that speed, the need for immediate assistance after a crash is more likely. The feature won't detect low-impact accidents, such as fender-benders.

Users can also report that they weren't in an accident, which will help refine the algorithm and make the feature even more accurate moving forward.

The crash detection feature leverages technology from Arity, which uses sensors in the cellphone to detect major collisions. Arity is a mobility data and analytics company that was founded by Allstate in 2016. Arity develops solutions to help make transportation smarter, simpler and safer overall.

Why is it important?

After an accident, staying safe and starting the recovery process are top priorities. Crash Detection Services allows us to help customers quickly and efficiently when they need us most.

The crash detection feature launched in December 2020. Since then, we've been keeping an eye on usage metrics to understand how the feature is working. For example, starting a claim has been the most utilized form of assistance after a crash. We can use insights like this to help inform future enhancements to Crash Detection Services.
